App-specific terms for HanziHeart, its website pages, and related services.
Last updated: 28 August 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of HanziHeart, a Chinese-language reading product operated by Gladiolus Limited, using HanziHeart as an app brand/trading name ("HanziHeart", "we", "us", or "our"). HanziHeart is not a separate legal entity; Gladiolus Limited is the legal operator and contracting party. These Terms also form the end user licence agreement (EULA) for HanziHeart.
By using HanziHeart, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you should not use the Service.
HanziHeart helps users understand Chinese text by producing a "read" of a line — its literal meaning, natural meaning, cultural context, emotional read, tone, key words, and suggested replies. You may paste or type text, import a screenshot, capture a photo of text, use the HanziHeart keyboard where available, save words or reads, hear pronunciation, create share cards, and use widgets or Lock Screen content.
HanziHeart is a language-understanding aid for general use. It is not a professional, certified, legal, medical, financial, safety, or relationship-advice service, and it is not a substitute for a qualified human translator or interpreter where accuracy matters.
You must meet the minimum age that applies to HanziHeart in your country or region to create an account or use the Service. HanziHeart is generally intended for users aged 16 or older. The localized minimum is 15 in Korea and 18 in Brazil, where the app may be displayed with an A18 rating. If local law or the applicable app-store rating requires a higher minimum age, that higher age applies.
If you meet the applicable minimum age but are under the age of legal adulthood in your country or region, a parent or legal guardian must review these Terms and be responsible for your use of the Service. By using HanziHeart, you confirm that you meet these age requirements.
HanziHeart uses AI to generate reads, translations, emotional read interpretations, tone estimates, dictionary-style explanations, practice content, and suggested replies. For screenshot or keyboard flows, HanziHeart may send extracted text to the Service so it can identify the relevant Chinese message. Outputs may contain mistakes, miss context, misjudge tone, identify the wrong message in a screenshot, or be unsuitable for your situation. You are responsible for reviewing a read before relying on it, and for any message you choose to send.
Do not rely on HanziHeart for high-stakes, legal, medical, financial, safety, or official translation needs. For anything important, confirm the meaning with a qualified human source.
You may submit Chinese text by pasting or typing it, importing a screenshot, capturing a photo of text, or using the HanziHeart keyboard where available. Image text recognition runs on your device; the image itself is not uploaded to us. The extracted or entered text is sent to our Service and AI provider to generate your read, as described in the Privacy Policy.
You must only submit content you are allowed to use. You represent that submitting the text does not infringe another person’s copyright, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights, and that where the text includes another person’s private message you have a lawful basis or permission to submit it.
You retain ownership of the text you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, process, store, analyse, and use it as needed to operate, secure, improve, and support the Service, including sending it to an AI provider to generate the read, metering usage, creating share-card content where you choose to share, and saving user-controlled reads or words where you choose to keep them.
Some features require a compatible device, operating system, current app version, internet access, app permissions, notifications, camera or photo-library access, clipboard access, keyboard Full Access, widgets or Lock Screen support, app-store services, and cloud services. On-device Chinese text recognition requires supported platform text-recognition technology. The HanziHeart keyboard may require Full Access so it can use network requests, the shared app session, and screenshot import. You are responsible for your device, internet connection, mobile data charges, settings, and keeping the app reasonably up to date. We do not guarantee that HanziHeart will remain compatible with every device, operating system, extension, keyboard, or platform version.
You may need to create an account, including by signing in with platform account providers, to use HanziHeart. Your signed-in session may be shared locally with app extensions, such as the HanziHeart keyboard, so those extensions can use the Service while you are signed in. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under your account, and must provide accurate information. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, misused the Service, or created risk for us or others.
HanziHeart may offer paid subscriptions. Subscription pricing, trial length, renewal period, and cancellation terms are shown before purchase in the app and by the relevant app store. Your subscription renews automatically unless cancelled before the end of the current period through your app store account settings. If a free trial is offered, payment starts automatically after the trial unless cancelled before the trial ends.
Payments, refunds, cancellations, and billing disputes are generally handled by Apple, Google, or the relevant app store according to their terms. HanziHeart may use a subscription management provider to manage entitlement status, restore purchases, sync subscription events, and enforce paid access.
A creator affiliate code identifies a creator or affiliate who introduced a new customer to HanziHeart. It may be claimed only by an eligible account within seven days of account creation and before that account has held a subscription. The eligible new customer may receive exactly one free month of HanziHeart Pro through an Apple subscription offer code. The creator receives attribution and any compensation governed by a separate written agreement; the creator does not receive an Apple free-month reward merely because the affiliate code was used.
A friend invite is a unique code shared by an eligible existing HanziHeart member (the inviter) with a new member (the invited friend). Only an active, genuinely paid HanziHeart Pro subscriber billed through the Apple App Store may generate and send friend invites. A subscriber who has cancelled may remain eligible until the end of the paid period. Trials, promotional grants, expired subscriptions, and subscriptions billed through another store do not qualify.
The invited friend must create an eligible new HanziHeart account, must not previously have held a subscription, and must claim the friend invite within seven days of account creation. Each invited friend may claim only one friend invite, the first valid claim controls, and an inviter may receive credit for no more than 10 friends who start qualifying invited subscriptions in any rolling 365-day period. Uncompleted claims do not consume that reward limit.
For each valid friend invite, the invited friend may receive exactly one free month of HanziHeart Pro through an Apple subscription offer code. The inviter receives exactly one free month only after Apple and our subscription systems confirm that the invited friend started the qualifying subscription. A friend invite never grants a free year, cash, transferable value, or a change to a different subscription plan.
Affiliate-recipient, friend-invite, and reward codes are subject to availability and to Apple’s eligibility, storefront, subscription, redemption, expiry, and renewal rules. Apple controls whether an offer can be redeemed and how the free month is applied to the subscriber’s renewal schedule. Apple’s terms and the App Store subscription terms shown at redemption also apply.
You must not refer yourself, create or control duplicate accounts, misrepresent eligibility, automate claims, sell or transfer codes, manipulate subscriptions or refunds, or otherwise exploit the programme. We may withhold, reject, cancel, revoke, or reverse pending or unredeemed rewards; mark an invite ineligible; suspend accounts; and correct programme records where we reasonably believe there has been fraud, abuse, a refund, chargeback, transfer, technical error, or breach of these Terms. A code already redeemed and accepted by Apple may not be technically reversible, but we may still reject the related referral credit or take other proportionate action.
We may change, pause, or end affiliate attribution or friend invites, including eligibility, limits, and availability, at any time. We will not reduce a free-month reward that has already been validly issued and redeemed except where required by law, Apple, fraud prevention, or correction of an error.
You must not:
If a rights holder believes content or activity connected to HanziHeart infringes their rights, they may contact hanziheart-legal@gladiolus.dev. We may review, restrict, or remove content or access where appropriate.
We own or license all intellectual property rights in the Service, including the app, text, graphics, branding, databases, software, and original content, excluding third-party materials and user content. HanziHeart is licensed, not sold. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms.
Some dictionary-style word definitions use or adapt third-party open lexical data, including CC-CEDICT Chinese-English dictionary data where available. CC-CEDICT is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence. HanziHeart may reformat, convert pinyin, index, or otherwise adapt that data for app use; adapted dictionary data remains subject to the applicable open-data licence terms.
You must not copy, scrape, reproduce, republish, reverse engineer, resell, sublicense, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by law or with our prior written consent.
HanziHeart relies on third-party services and platform technologies, including app stores, authentication providers, cloud hosting providers, subscription providers, on-device platform technologies, system speech and sharing tools, keyboard extension frameworks, optional web-search providers where configured, and AI providers. You use external services at your own risk and must comply with any third-party terms that apply. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, security, or practices of external services, which may change or become unavailable at any time.
HanziHeart may change, suspend, modify, restrict, or remove features at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every feature will remain available in every version, country, device, or subscription tier. Beta or experimental features may be incomplete or withdrawn at any time.
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect users, comply with law, protect our systems, or enforce these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no representation or warranty that the Service, reads, translations, emotional read interpretations, screenshot message selection, text-recognition results, tone estimates, dictionary explanations, pronunciation, practice content, saved content, share cards, keyboard features, widgets, or suggested replies will be accurate, complete, suitable for your needs, available, or free from bugs or omissions. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer guarantees or statutory rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for any loss of profits, business, opportunity, goodwill, or data. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service or these Terms will be limited to the greater of the total amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or GBP 100.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless HanziHeart and its officers, directors, contractors, and affiliates from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable expenses arising from your unlawful or deliberate misuse of the Service, your submitted content, your infringement of another person’s rights, or your breach of these Terms where that breach causes a third-party claim.
Our use of personal data, technical data, diagnostics, and related app information is described in the HanziHeart Privacy Policy.
If Gladiolus Limited, HanziHeart, or substantially all of our relevant assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, insolvency process, sale of assets, assignment, change of control, or similar transaction, your account, user content, subscription information, and other information may be transferred to the acquiring or successor entity. The successor entity will continue to process personal data in accordance with the Privacy Policy, applicable law, and any required notices, consents, and opt-out rights.
If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue to apply. If we do not enforce a right immediately, that does not mean we waive that right. These Terms form the agreement between you and us for use of HanziHeart, together with any purchase, subscription, or app-store terms that also apply.
If you downloaded HanziHeart from the Apple App Store, this section applies in addition to the rest of these Terms. Where these Terms are provided to Apple as HanziHeart’s custom EULA, they are intended to apply instead of Apple’s standard EULA for HanziHeart. Apple’s own terms still apply separately to your Apple account, App Store access, purchases, billing, refunds, and App Store usage rules.
You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Gladiolus Limited only, and not with Apple Inc. Apple is not responsible for HanziHeart or its content.
The licence granted in Section 11 is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, and as otherwise permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Gladiolus Limited is solely responsible for maintenance and support of HanziHeart. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for HanziHeart.
If HanziHeart fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, for HanziHeart. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for HanziHeart.
Gladiolus Limited, not Apple, is responsible for addressing claims relating to HanziHeart, including product liability claims, legal or regulatory compliance claims, and consumer protection claims, and for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any third-party intellectual property infringement claim relating to HanziHeart.
You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any US Government prohibited or restricted party list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you access or download HanziHeart through Google Play, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Gladiolus Limited only, not Google; Google is not responsible for HanziHeart or its content; your use may also be subject to Google Play’s terms, policies, and billing rules; and Gladiolus Limited is not responsible for Google Play billing decisions, payment processing errors, refund decisions, store restrictions, or account issues.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on our website and may also be made available in the app. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify users where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless mandatory consumer law in your country of residence requires otherwise. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where applicable consumer law provides otherwise. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory rights, remedies, app-store rights, or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded under the laws of your country or region of residence.
